Brain Compatible Classrooms
A Brain Compatible Classroom is where we can create a free Mind Flow State for both teachers and students. If students do not achieve a Mind Flow State then they become disengaged and exhibit adverse learning behaviors with students performing far below their best. If teachers work in a Non Compatible environment then they become dissatisfied, discouraged and stressed as many students receive a lifelong sentence of low performance. A Brain Compatible Classroom can offer an environment that has the following characteristics:
- Absence of Threat
- Meaningful Content
- Enriched Environment
- Choices
- Collaboration
- Immediate feedback
- Adequate time [for reflection and integration of new knowledge]
- Mastery at the application level
- Active involvement in the learning
The brain compatible classroom creates an environment that Maximizes use of strategies gained from the latest research on the brain. Classrooms integrate the tempo of music conducive to critical thinking, room arrangements that promote cooperation and learning communities. Instructors take into consideration temperature, and the difference in male and female processing characteristics. Explanations for age old student responses become instances of student's ability to remain on task a higher percentage of class time.
Smart Classrooms
A smart classroom is a classroom that that has an instructor station equipped with computer and audiovisual equipment, allowing the instructor to teach using a wide variety of media. Classrooms using Smart Boards broaden the educational opportunities for students. Students can engage in Distance Learning courses, participate in Virtual Classrooms experiences as well as join 3-D instruction tours through institutions around the world. Smart boards usage in our classrooms allow our school to connect with classes in other countries. We are currently working on a partnership with a school in China.
